Miriam Lexmann MEP concerning the international joint statement on Hong Kong

Miriam Lexmann MEP, together with Hong Kong Watch, has been mobilising political leaders from across the world to join an international joint-statement led by the former Governor of Hong Kong Lord Patten and the former British Foreign Secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind to respond to Beijing’s unilateral imposition of national security legislation in Hong Kong.

14 July 2020 Miriam Lexmann MEP co-signed a joint letter from MEPs addressed to the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell and the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, in order to condemn the unilateral decision of the Republic of Turkey to convert Hagia Sophia, a World Heritage Site, into a mosque.

She stressed the need to get the EU out of its foreign policy complacency, to remain true to our values, and work with our democratic allies acros the Atlantic, and around the world, to defend freedom.
